MANITOWOC- Manitowoc’s own pleinairist, national award-winning artist Jason Prigge, won the 8th Annual Door County Plein Air Festival Dockside Quick Paint Competition on Saturday, July 26 in Fish Creek, Door County. Hosted by the Peninsula School of Art, over 500 art lovers gathered to cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award which was bestowed upon Jason Prigge with much fanfare for his 22x28 piece titled Restful Morning. Featuring a sailboat moored in the Fish Creek Harbor, the winning piece was executed within the two hour limitation of the Quick Paint Competition. Prigge’s bold choice to go large with the piece equates to the completion of approximately 5 square inches per minute of oil on canvas.

The myth is that Prigge was born with a paintbrush in his hand, but he has truly been pursuing his art since he was a boy. As a pleinairist, he can be found tramping the Wisconsin landscape in search of the perfect subject or working out of his studio in Manitowoc Rapids.

Prigge is represented, along with other nationally acclaimed artists, by the Bay Art Gallery at Sister Bay Trading Company, Sister Bay Wisconsin.  Locally, his art is displayed at the Manitowoc Trading Company and Jaystreet Technologies.

In addition to plein air painting, Prigge creates art digitally in the form of industrial and concept design.

As the First Place People’s Choice Award Recipient, Prigge wins a coveted invitation to be a featured artist in the 2015 Door County Plein Air Festival. A prestigious national event, ranked in the top three of national plein air competitions by Plein Air Magazine, Prigge will join 39 other invited pleinairists from across the United States.
